Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 8.4.2022

Avalanche bulletin 58, Friday 5.4.2022 at 5:30 for the area of the Municipality of Tržič.

General avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič above 1500 meters is 2nd degree on the five-level European scale, lower it is 1st degree. Increased avalanche danger from Saturday afternoon to Sunday!

Snow is melting and settling. The process was faster on all shady slopes. Air temperatures are above freezing even at night in the high mountains. Wet snow is on all slopes. Moisture is also penetrating into the old snowpack. Some small to medium avalanches have released in areas with frequent avalanches. In the last four days, 30 cm of snow has settled and melted at 1500 meters elevation.

This morning it will still be clear, in the afternoon it will cloud over. In the evening and night to Saturday, precipitation is expected. Today air temperature at 1500 meters around 9°C, moderate to strong SW wind blowing. At 2000 meters around +2°C, SW wind up to 60 km/h.
Tomorrow cloudy with precipitation. In the morning it will rain. Initially the snow line will be around 1500 meters, in the afternoon it will drop rapidly below 1000 meters. North wind will blow and it will cool down. At 1500 meters light up to 10 cm snow, higher in the high mountains a bit more. On Sunday it will partially clear. Relatively cold.

Air temperatures are still high today. Also today and tomorrow morning the snow will be wet throughout its depth. Since it will rain first, the snow surface will be wet and new snow will bond relatively well with the old snow surface. We do not expect much new snow. In the high mountains, increased avalanche danger from Saturday afternoon to Sunday. The north wind that will blow on Saturday afternoon will transport snow in the high mountains and deposit it on southern slopes. It will also build wind slabs and cornices. Ridges will be icy on Sunday morning.
