Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 9.5.2023

General avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič is LOW, 1st degree on the five-level European scale.

Snow has been melting quickly on all slopes in the past days. Somewhat slower in the high mountains, above 1800 meters. Most sun-exposed slopes are bare. More snow remains in shady locations on sheltered sides. Snow up to approximately 2000 meters was wet, even at night. Higher up, it has surface frozen. On ridges, there are still cornices that will collapse upon solar radiation in the coming days.

This afternoon it will partially clear. Air temperature at 1500 meters will be around +4°C, at 2000 meters around +1°C. A light easterly wind will blow. From tomorrow to Friday, it will be rainy and foggy in the mountains. Snow line above 1700 meters.

Snow will continue to melt in the coming days. The snowpack will mostly be stable in the coming days as well. Above 1700 meters, some snow may fall. On ridges, there are still cornices that will collapse upon solar radiation, so be cautious. Also be cautious of falling rocks, especially when hiking under cliffs.
