Avalanche Bulletin 41, Monday 21.2.2022 at 7:00 for the area of Tržič Municipality.
General avalanche danger in the Tržič Municipality area above 1500 meters is 2nd degree on the five-level European scale, lower it is 1st degree.
On Saturday, up to 10 cm of new snow fell in the high mountains. In the mid-mountains, amounts were much smaller. During snowfall, wind transported snow and built additional areas with avalanche problems. Lower, in the mid-mountains, it first rained then snowed. The snow was wetter. Avalanche conditions in the mid-mountains did not worsen. Overnight to Saturday, a crust formed on shady slopes up to around 1700 meters, higher the snow remained dry, below 1700 meters wet or watery. Yesterday, solar radiation affected sunny slopes. On these parts, snow became watery, settled and transformed. Individual small to medium wet loose snow avalanches and slab avalanches released. The old snow cover is well settled in places with lower slope angles.
Today in mountains above Tržič cloudy, foggy in the morning. Expect some precipitation, but amounts very small. Snow line around 1000 meters. Air temperature today at 1500 meters around 0°C, morning strong SW wind, afternoon moderate northerly wind. At 2000 meters around -4°C, from midday northerly to northeasterly wind up to 40 km/h. Overnight to Tuesday clearing. Tomorrow sunny. Strong northerly wind blowing.
Today's precipitation will not significantly change avalanche conditions, as amounts very small. In high terrain on shady sides still areas with drifted snow. Be careful on these parts, as even additional minor snowpack loading can trigger an avalanche. Lower, below 1500 meters snowpack stable and layers well bonded. Below 1300 meters snow will surface wet today, freeze overnight. Tomorrow more sun, so on sun-exposed slopes snow will become watery, freeze at night.
Still possible individual spontaneous small wet loose snow avalanches and slab avalanches.
Northerly wind will continue to transport snow in smaller amounts in high mountains and deposit it in leeward positions. Drifted snow also under cornices and in narrow couloirs. Snow will remain dry on shady slopes due to low air humidity.
