Avalanche danger is level 1, LOW. The snowpack is stable, hard and icy in places. High risk of slipping.
Snow conditions
There is little snow in the mountains. Consolidated snow cover is mainly in the Julian Alps mostly only above 2300 m. Elsewhere there is little snow only on the highest peaks and in some gullies. Snow is frozen, icy in places. In eastern Slovenia, up to about 5 cm of powdery snow fell at the end of the week in places.
Forecast weather development
Tuesday night and Tuesday daytime will see light snow in places, otherwise dry and cold weather until Friday night. Tuesday will be sunny in Primorska, mostly cloudy elsewhere. Wednesday sunny and cold, foggy in lowlands in the morning in places. Thursday southwesterly wind, cloudiness increasing from the west. Evening light precipitation starting in western areas, Friday night also in central areas. Mostly snow. Temperatures mostly below zero this week, only Thursday with southwesterly warming slightly above 0 degrees in places.
Tendency of snow conditions
Snow will remain frozen and hard. Snowpack will remain stable and icy in places, avalanche danger LOW. Risk of slipping still present due to hard and icy snow cover in places, and on wind-packed ridges. Friday night light snow starting. New snow will bond poorly to hard and partly icy base, southwesterly wind will blow it into drifts in mountains.
