Snow conditions in the mountains 3.4.2013
3.04.2013
On Monday and Tuesday it was cloudy and foggy in the mountains, with occasional precipitation more frequent on Tuesday. It snowed down to the lowlands as well. By this morning, 10 to around 20 cm of snow had fallen in the mountains. Temperatures were below zero throughout. The snowpack settled and transformed slowly. At 2500 m in the Julijci up to around 480 cm of snow, at 1500 m up to 320 cm and at 1000 m from 80 to around 100 cm. Elsewhere in our mountains at 1500 m from 110 to 160 cm, at 1000 m from around 20 to 50 cm.
The snow is mostly soft and light and sinks deeply. In the high mountains there are many wind slabs and slabs.
Avalanche danger is 3rd degree, below around 1500 m 2nd degree. From steeper slopes smaller and individual medium-sized loose snow avalanches will release. An avalanche can be triggered even by small additional load on the snowpack on steeper slopes and places with wind-blown snow. Due to low temperatures and considerable cloud cover, the snowpack will transform and settle relatively slowly.
Today cloudy and foggy, no significant precipitation during the day. Tomorrow cloud cover thinner, especially in the high mountains some sun possible. Temperatures mostly below zero. The snowpack will continue to settle and transform, faster on sun-exposed aspects. Avalanche danger will not change much by Friday morning. In the night to Friday light snow will start from the west in the mountains, new snow amount still small by Friday morning.
New report will be issued on Friday, 5.4.2013 in the morning.
General avalanche danger is 3rd degree on the European five-degree scale.
