Snow conditions in the Tržič Municipality area 18.3.2022

Avalanche Bulletin 49, Friday 18.3.2022 at 7:00 for the Tržič Municipality area.

General avalanche danger in the Tržič Municipality area is level 1 on the five-level European scale. Above 1700 meters, level 2 avalanche danger on sunny slopes in the afternoon.

High temperatures have affected the snow cover. The snow has refrozen throughout its entire thickness. On Wednesday and yesterday, individual small to medium wet loose snow avalanches and also ground avalanches occurred on sunny high-mountain aspects. Last night, only the surface of the snow cover froze on all slopes and elevations.

Today in the mountains above Tržič it will be partly cloudy. Air temperature at 1500 meters around +2°C, weak NE wind blowing. At 2000 meters around -3°C, W wind up to 30 km/h. Tomorrow slightly more cloudy. In the afternoon possible light snow. Slightly cooler. Also on Sunday daytime partly cloudy and even cooler.

The snow cover surface froze overnight due to colder air. Lower air temperatures will stabilize the snow cover better on shaded and shady aspects in the coming days. On sunny aspects, especially in the afternoon if the sun shines, the snow cover will soften and become more unstable. On these parts spontaneous wet loose snow avalanches and ground avalanches are not excluded. Tomorrow, Saturday afternoon or evening, possible light snow. Little precipitation, so it will not affect the old snow cover. On Sunday even cooler and the snow cover will stabilize more. At lower elevations there is little or almost no snow, so no avalanche danger there. High-mountain ridges are icy, risk of slipping. Use equipment suitable for such conditions. Avalanche danger will gradually decrease by Sunday.
