Snow conditions in the Tržič Municipality area 28.2.2022

Avalanche bulletin 43, Monday 28.2.2022 at 6:30 for the Tržič Municipality area.

General avalanche danger in the Tržič Municipality area below 1900 m is 1st degree on the five-level European scale. Above 1900 m it is locally 2nd degree.

Strong north wind has transported snow in the last two days. Mostly slopes and ridges are wind-scoured. Ridges are scoured to hard snow or icy base. Wind-drifted snow is retained only under north faces and in narrow couloirs of the high mountains, where smaller slab areas remain.
Overall, the snowpack is stable and well bonded.

Today in Tržič high mountains it will be clear. In the afternoon somewhat more cloudy with some snow showers. Air temperature at 1500 m around -6°C, north wind up to 30 km/h. At 2000 m around -10°C, north winds up to 50 km/h. Tomorrow it will be somewhat colder. Wind will gradually calm a bit. From Wednesday onwards it will gradually warm up a bit and be less windy.

The snowpack will also remain stable in the coming days. Today and tomorrow north wind in the high mountains will still transport snow in smaller quantities. It will not cause additional major avalanche problems. Above 1900 m there are still smaller areas with wind-drifted snow. On these parts you can trigger an avalanche with additional high load on the snowpack. Snow will remain dry today and tomorrow. On Wednesday it will moisten somewhat on sun-exposed slopes, and freeze at night. Here small spontaneous slides of wet loose snow are not excluded, mainly on grassy slopes with incline >35°. On shady slopes it will remain dry due to low temperatures and low air humidity.
The avalanche danger level will continue to decrease.
