Sport climbers will be followed via broadcasts on TV Slovenia.
In the pre-Olympic season of sport climbing, which starts this weekend with the bouldering World Cup event in Switzerland, we will be able to follow our sport climbers at the most important competitions also on Television Slovenia screens - first already this Sunday, April 7. The current world champion in bouldering and combined events Janja Garnbret, also Slovenian sportswoman of the year 2018, the overall World Cup 2018 winner in bouldering Jernej Kruder and the rest of the Slovenian sport climbing national team promise top-class climbing that must not be missed!
The Alpine Association of Slovenia, in collaboration with the general sponsor of the sport climbing national team Prva osebna zavarovalnica and Television Slovenia, has reached an agreement for broadcasts of individual World Cup events, the World Championships from Japan and the Olympic qualifying event for Tokyo 2020, which will be in France. The first competition can be watched on the 2nd channel of TV Slovenia already this weekend, when the climbers will compete in the opening World Cup bouldering event in Swiss Meiringen. "I think this is a great opportunity for even better promotion of the sport, on the other hand, we have achieved so much in climbing and successfully promote Slovenia that climbing simply deserves this," commented the good news Gorazd Hren, the selector of the Slovenian sport climbing national team, which recorded the best results in history last season. At the major competitions, it won 29 medals, the most so far, with even more finals placements. The exceptionally strong team is evidenced by the fact that Slovenia led in the number of World Cup wins last year (achieving nine in total), was second in the Nations Cup in bouldering, and third in lead. More > No joking with Slovenian sport climbers.
"Television Slovenia is the first national television in the world to broadcast the majority of World Cup and World Championship events, which will certainly contribute to greater recognition of sport climbing, and the competitors will inspire young people to take up this sport," emphasizes Matej Planko, General Secretary of the Alpine Association of Slovenia. On the 2nd channel of TV Slovenia, it will be possible to watch the finals of the World Cup events in Meiringen (6. 4.), Chongqing (28. 4.), Munich (18. 5.), Chamonix (13. 7.) and of course Kranj (29. 9.), as well as the World Championships in Hachioji (11.–21. 8.) and the Olympic qualifying event in Toulouse (29.-30. 11.).
On Friday, April 5, qualifications for the first competition of this year's World Cup in bouldering will take place in Meiringen in the Swiss canton of Bern, Saturday, April 6, is reserved for semifinals at 11:00 and finals at 19:00. The recording of the finals will be on the 2nd channel of TV Slovenia on Sunday, April 7, between 14:40 and 16:30.
Among 330 registered competitors from 33 countries, Slovenian colors are represented by 14 members of the Slovenian sport climbing national team. The current world champion in bouldering Janja Garnbret (also world champion in combined and runner-up in lead, as well as overall World Cup winner in lead and combined) has not yet won in Meiringen, so the goal is clear, while the overall World Cup 2018 winner in bouldering Jernej Kruder won his first World Cup victory last year at the opening event in Switzerland. Last season, Katja Kadić and Gregor Vezonik also finished among the top five in the World Cup bouldering, and in Meiringen, Mia Krampl, Vita Lukan, Lučka Rakovec, Julija Kruder and Urška Repušič will also compete in the women's category, and Anže Peharc, Domen Škofic, Matic Kotar, Zan Sudar and Luka Potočar in the men's category.
The Slovenian sport climbing national team, operating under the leadership of selector Gorazd Hren and coaches Luka Fonda and Urh Čehovin, also includes Tjaša Kalan, Mina Markovič, Lana Skušek, Tjaša Slemenšek, Martin Bergant and Milan Preskar, who will enter the World Cup in July at lead events. In August, the competitors face the season's highlight, the Sport Climbing World Championships in Hachioji, Japan, and at the end of November, the Olympic qualifying event for the 2020 Olympics in French Toulouse. After both competitions, the first 13 competitors for the 2020 Olympic Games will be known, with the remaining seven in the women's and men's categories next year.
