Storm and hiking trails

14.07.2023
Following recent severe storms, extensive damage has occurred in the Carinthian and Pohorje forests. Numerous fallen trees, swollen torrents, and material deposits have damaged or at least hindered passage on many hiking trails. Trail markers are already conducting initial inspections, but until final information is available, they advise postponing visits to Carinthian hiking trails for a few days.

Extensive storms have caused numerous windfalls across wider Carinthia. Carinthian trail markers are already surveying the area. We will report on any other possible closures on this website.

Caution is therefore required when visiting surrounding trails as well.

Currently CLOSED hiking trails in Carinthia and the Pohorje area:
Lovrenc na Pohorju - Klopni vrh: on sections Strgar-Drtičnikovo and Lovrenc na Pohorju-Drtičnikovo.
Črna na Koroškem-Smrekovec
Section of Kozjaška trail between homesteads Žohar and Navšnik
Ruše-Šumik waterfalls (trail along Lobnica)
Trail through Bistriški vintgar above Slovenska Bistrica

GENERAL NOTICE: In addition to the above information, we warn that in areas affected by recent severe storms, there have been numerous windfalls and individual fallen trees. Larger broken branches or even entire trees may be hanging in tree tops. Trails in the foothills and high mountains may also be damaged due to torrent activity and deposits of scree and other material. We advise a degree of caution when hiking on trails.

Reporting damaged trails
If you notice any damage or hazards on hiking trails, you can inform us at the email address poskodbe.poti@pzs.si. Specify which trail you observed damage or deficiencies on and describe them briefly. If possible, please attach a photo.

Immediate reporting of a damaged hiking trail is possible via the maPZS app.
The procedure for submitting a notice is described on the website www.pzs.si.

NOTICE TO HIKING TRAIL USERS: We recommend that hiking trail users check the actual status of hiking trails in advance on the website stanje-poti.pzs.si, at the nearest mountain hut, or with the local mountaineering association. If you notice damage to hiking trails or their inadequate maintenance (faded markers, overgrowth, etc.), please send a message to poskodbe.poti@pzs.si specifying which hiking trail you observed the deficiency on, describe the deficiency, and if possible, add a photo.

WARNING: Users use hiking trails at their own risk. Hiking trail users must act self-responsibly and responsibly towards others when using hiking trails so as not to endanger or injure themselves or others. The user is obliged to use the hiking trail in such a way that no damage is caused to it, the land through which it passes, other properties, and the fauna and flora along it. It is prohibited to restrict access to hiking trails or to damage, remove, or destroy markers, directional signs, signposts, safety equipment, and other markings or to use unmarked shortcuts.
