Summits blanketed in snow
16.08.2008
Last night a cold front passed over Slovenia, causing numerous severe thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds, heavy rain, and hail in places. With the heavier precipitation, the snow line locally dropped to around 2000m, but a noteworthy snow cover remained only on the highest summits, where up to 5cm fell. Due to snow-covered mountain trails, walking on these paths is slippery and dangerous.
Caution is also advised elsewhere in the mountains as paths are wet and damp from the rain, and some trees have been felled locally, which may obstruct ascents on certain mountain trails. Extra caution is needed when crossing torrents, which may have completely destroyed sections of the paths.
