The "Mobility Impaired Conquer Mountains 2023" action begins

The Committee of the Alpine Association of Slovenia for mountaineering of disabled persons and persons with special needs – the inPlaninec Committee – presented its plans for 2023 on Thursday, 6 April 2023. Particular attention was devoted to the "Mobility Impaired Conquer Mountains 2023" (GOGO 2023) action, which this year, in its fourth year, will take place under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar.

They chose 6 April, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, for the presentation date, as with their action they recommend and above all enable an active lifestyle and as much physical activity as possible for mobility impaired persons. At the same time, the action connects organisations for the disabled and humanitarian organisations, strengthens solidarity, intergenerational cooperation and volunteering, and promotes care for nature.



Jurček Nowakk, head of the inPlaninec Committee - the Committee for mountaineering of disabled persons and persons with special needs, which operates under the Alpine Association of Slovenia, is convinced that the committee has taken the primary direction, as the committee's work focuses on enabling the inclusion of disabled persons and persons with special needs in mountaineering activities and contributing to an inclusive society: "Our work is exceptional and diverse. We are innovative people ready to test and seek new ways of solving problems, with emphasis on solutions rather than problems. The planned primary direction will lead us to the goal."

The MOBILITY IMPAIRED CONQUER MOUNTAINS action thus brings as many as 19 hikes on paths accessible also to mountaineers in wheelchairs and hikers who need assistance when walking this year. Five partners will collaborate in its implementation:


• Alpine Association of Slovenia,

• Sonček – Association of Societies for Cerebral Palsy Slovenia so.p.,

• Paraplegics Association of Slovenia,

• Muscular Dystrophy Association of Slovenia,

• Multiple Sclerosis Association of Slovenia.


The partners were presented at the press conference by Stojan Rozman, head of the GOGO 2023 working group. The conference took place in the green surroundings of the tourist farm Pri Lazarju, where representatives of the partner organisations ensured even firmer support for the action by signing an agreement.



President of the Alpine Association of Slovenia Jože Rovan emphasised on this occasion that the Alpine Association of Slovenia is celebrating its 130th anniversary this year and has found space in its diversity also for the most vulnerable in our society. Since experiencing nature is a basic need for each of us, top alpinists Marija and Andrej Štremfelj, the first married couple to ascend the summit of Everest, also supported the action: "The joy we bring to the valley beautifies our everyday days and therefore it is worth participating in GOGO actions. Join us too."

Deaf serving in mountain huts – this year under the title inPlaninci with hearing impairment and with expanded content, 6th year underway.

Special actions of the inPlaninec Committee of the Alpine Association of Slovenia are:

Learning Slovenian sign language for the blind,

Sport climbing for persons with hearing impairment.

As part of the Determined Step action – no barriers for the blind and visually impaired, a smaller group of female and male mountaineers wants to conquer Triglav on 19 July! On 23 September, mountaineers will set off from Ankaran to Debeleg rtič and join the conclusion of the Trail of Blind and Visually Impaired Mountaineers on the Slovenian Mountain Trail. At the same time, with the support of sponsor Lek, a member of the Sandoz group, they will also mark 70 years of the Slovenian Mountain Trail, 130 years of the Alpine Association of Slovenia, Slovenian sports day and the international day of sign languages.



Support for the GOGO 2023 action and the work of the inPlaninec committee was expressed at the press conference by representatives of all partner organisations and working groups, volunteers, ambassadors and para-athletes.
