Timetables in the Alps 2013

14.06.2013
For the fifth consecutive year, CIPRA Slovenia, association for the protection of the Alps, with partners – including the Alpine Association
of Slovenia – has published the booklet Timetables in the Alps. The booklet has also undergone an upgrade this year – it contains
12 new lines, so it now boasts 31 bus, train, cable car and boat lines across the
Slovenian Alps. We have increased the print run to a total of 6,000 copies.
The project, in addition to its content aspect promoting the use of public passenger transport, can also be praised
for uniting the interests of 13 local tourist organizations and other partners. Stakeholders who recognize the importance of sustainable mobility in the
sensitive alpine area have been self-initiating alliances for the last 4 years. This year we joined forces with the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention, Alpine Association of Slovenia, Triglav National Park, Local Tourist Organization Bovec, Local Tourist Organization Kranjska Gora, Local Tourist Organization Sotočje, Tourism Bled, Tourism Bohinj,
Tourism Radovljica, Center Rinka, Logarska Dolina and Institute for Tourism and Sports in the Municipality of Kamnik.
Unfortunately, state measures are progressing too slowly, so we are creating our own database of timetables collected in one place, thereby contributing to greater practicality in using public transport and consequently reducing personal motor traffic. With the handy booklet we are increasing the use of public passenger transport primarily among tourists, as we have also published a printed English version for the second time this year. However, we wish that more locals, Slovenian visitors and mountaineers would use the booklet.
The problem is not only pollutant emissions and noise, but also space consumption – there is too much parked sheet metal both in front of home doorsteps and in tourist areas. Sustainable mobility in our alpine space is therefore very important both for the present and future generations. And public passenger transport is an important alternative to personal transport. We are aware that changing travel habits is a long-term process.
The booklet is available at all partner organizations, in addition also in electronic form on the websites of CIPRA Slovenia, Alpine Association of Slovenia and other partners.
The use of public passenger transport in the Alpine region is still poorly recognized, so your media coverage of the booklet would be more than welcome, as you would thus directly contribute to greater awareness, environmental protection and at the same time to improving the tourist offer.
