To the Alps by Public Transport

Timetables for the Slovenian Alps Area Published for the Fourth Year in a Row

For the fourth year in a row, CIPRA Slovenia, the association for the protection of the Alps, together with partners, has published the booklet Timetables in the Alps. This year, the booklet has received a major upgrade - it contains data on timetables for nineteen of the most common public passenger transport routes in the Alps, 14 bus and 5 railway routes. In addition to five new routes, this year's booklet also features a map of the routes, and we have added timetables for seven alpine cable cars and the tourist boat on Lake Bohinj. We have also produced a printed edition of the English version of the timetables for all those coming to us from abroad.

Traffic is certainly one of the major problems in the alpine region, as both transit freight and personal passenger traffic are increasing. Therefore, we aim to increase the use of public passenger transport among locals, visitors, hikers, and tourists by annually publishing timetables collected in one place. CIPRA Slovenia, in collaboration with the Alpine Association of Slovenia, Triglav National Park, and local tourist organizations Bled, Bohinj, Bovec, Kranjska Gora, and Tolmin, contributes to greater awareness of public passenger transport and changes in travel habits through the publication of Timetables in the Alps, thereby reducing the carbon footprint from traffic.

We are aware of the contribution of sustainable mobility to the preservation of nature, environmental protection, and sustainable development, so for the fourth year, we are publishing timetables that would facilitate and bring closer travel by buses and trains for both residents and visitors to the Alps.

The problems are not only pollutant emissions and noise, but also land use - there is too much parked metal both in front of our doorstep and in tourist areas. Sustainable mobility in our sensitive alpine region is therefore very important, both for the present and for future generations. And public passenger transport is an important alternative to personal transport.

Since our mountains are also visited by many visitors from abroad, for whom sustainable tourism is strongly emphasized, we have translated the timetables into English and thus enabled even wider use of bus and rail transport.
