Along the main road Mežica – Črna na Koroškem, before the settlement of Žerjav, there is a distinct wild torrent gorge Mučevo on the left side of the road.
The via ferrata runs along and in the gorge.
STARTING POINT: The starting point for the via ferrata is the parking lot about 500 meters before the settlement of Žerjav on the right side of the road Mežica – Črna na Koroškem
APPROACH: From the parking lot, head back towards Mežica and after 200 meters along the sidewalk on the right side, reach the signpost for the via ferrata. From the signpost, continue on the forest path into the gorge to a small wooden bridge (blue and red markings), where the easier and harder via ferrata split, 5 minutes from the parking lot.
EASIER VIA FERRATA: blue marking, grade B, locally C. The path leads across the wooden bridge and along gentle serpentines to the base of the wall. Climbing follows the ridge on the right above the gorge. The ridge is slightly exposed and very scenic, in the upper part it levels out and takes us to the suspension bridge (where the easier via ferrata joins the harder one). Cross the bridge and after a few meters the via ferrata ends. Climbing 45 minutes.
HARDER VIA FERRATA: red marking, grade D, locally E. At the wooden bridge, continue along the gorge for about 80 m to the entrance to the via ferrata. The entrance and first 10–12 meters are very demanding, grade E. Then the path continues on easier terrain, with smaller exposed passages and crossing to the left, to the suspension bridge, across the bridge and then up demanding slabs vertically upwards, grade E, to the upper bridge. Across the bridge and on somewhat easier terrain to the overhanging section, over it grade E, then on combined terrain to the edge of the wall, where the via ferrata joins the easier one before the bridge, across the bridge and along the cable to the end of the climbing. Climbing takes one and a half hours.
Those who wish can avoid the E difficulties and the entire via ferrata gets grade D. For this there are three bypasses: the first already at the entrance, where the path along the gorge continues to an easier entrance. The second is before the bridge, which is not crossed, but continues to the right upwards. The third bypass is in the upper part, where by retreating we avoid the pronounced overhang.
DESCENT: At the end of the cable, the path continues straight ahead (blue and red markings) along the ridge to the forest clearing and then along it to the right to the power line, then right downhill along the path under the power line to the parking lot. 20 minutes.
