Together for the Safety of Visitors to Slovenian Mountains
18.12.2013
Police Director General Stanislav Veniger and President of the Alpine Association of Slovenia Bojan Rotovnik signed a cooperation agreement today, December 18.
The purpose of the agreement is to strengthen cooperation between the two entities that perform tasks in the mountains. It primarily concerns assistance in maintaining and renovating alpine infrastructure, joint professional trainings and consultations, exchange of information on conditions in the mountains, testing of alpine and mountaineering equipment, cooperation in the field of radio communications, cooperation in preparing the National Mountain Safety Program, joint preventive activities, etc. The police will provide helicopter transports within their capabilities and offer assistance with material resources.
Veniger and Rotovnik emphasized that the police and the alpine association have been cooperating very well for many years, and with the agreement, they will further strengthen this cooperation and together ensure a high level of safety for visitors to Slovenian mountains.
PZS President Bojan Rotovnik said on this occasion: «The Alpine Association of Slovenia is one of the most mass-based and oldest non-governmental organizations in Slovenia. With its activities, it covers a huge variety of activities in the Slovenian mountain world, so we are very pleased that we have succeeded in concluding an agreement with the Slovenian police. We hope for a very correct and content-rich cooperation, especially in the field of preventive action in the mountain world, where safety is most important to us, and in the field of renovation and maintenance of Slovenian alpine trails, of which we have over 9000 kilometers in Slovenia. We maintain the network of alpine trails entirely voluntarily, so any such assistance we can receive from various state authorities is very welcome. At the same time, we are now in the phase of ecological renovation of alpine huts, and we are also happy for the assistance of the Slovenian police in this regard.»
Police Director General Stanislav Veniger emphasized: «Regarding the agreement between the police and the Alpine Association of Slovenia, I must say that the cooperation has already been exceptionally good so far. It is true, however, that if partners sign an agreement, they are even more committed to it. Since it concerns the safety of people in our mountains, in our highlands, it is of course important that we cooperate very well together in the field of training, joint provision of safety, preventive activities, etc. The Slovenian police will also strive to provide helicopter transports in the segments already mentioned by President Rotovnik, within its possibilities. We will also assist with other material-technical resources as much as we can. Based on the agreement, we will prepare a joint annual action plan through which this agreement will also be implemented.»
