Tone Škarja has passed away

Also thanks to his leadership, one of the most noble stories of our conquest of the Himalayas was written in 1979, but it was by no means the only one.



Tone Škarja, mountaineer and leader of several expeditions to Himalayan peaks, has passed away. He was 83 years old. He was one of the most experienced climbers, having completed more than 500 alpinistic ascents, over 20 of which were first ascents. He participated in several expeditions to foreign mountains, often as the expedition leader. From 1968 to 1978, he was the chief of the Mountain Rescue Service station in Kamnik, and from 1979 he led the Commission for Expeditions to Foreign Mountains at the Alpine Association of Slovenia.
