A few days ago, police forwarded us a report from Austrian colleagues about a major landslide on the northern part of Vrtača. We are publishing the further measures taken by Tržič trail maintainers after inspecting the trail condition.
After receiving the report, we informed the trail maintainers of Planinsko društvo Tržič, who maintain the hiking trail leading from Zelenica to Vrtača, about the potential hazard on the path. The maintainers responded quickly to the notice and carried out an inspection of the endangered area the next day.
Based on the landslide condition, the four maintainers from PD Tržič decided on a minor rerouting of the hiking trail - more could not be done in such a short time with the existing team. At the site of the rerouted trail, they physically closed the existing path, erected a warning sign, and redirected the trail to a new, altered route with new markings. As there is a risk of further landslides, we advise following the change and ascending to Vrtača via the alternative path.
Until the next notice, we recommend not approaching the landslide! Also be alert for possible cracks in the ground and falling rocks.
