Did you know that trekking poles relieve the leg muscles and pelvis while strengthening the arm muscles? Trekking poles also help in deep snow, making progress easier.
Trekking poles can prevent a fall or slip, but improper use can cause an accident. When walking with poles, take care not to dislodge rocks and to stow them in the backpack on climbing routes, as they hinder climbing. If descending the same route, it is best to leave them just before the climbing section and pick them up on the return.
It can happen that they are gone on the way back, so it is good to hide them behind a rock.
For walking, ski poles or telescopic poles can be used. Telescopic poles are much more practical as the length can be adjusted—shorter on ascent than on descent.
