Two climbers died in the north face of Triglav

2.04.2024
Gorenjska police found two dead men in the area of Triglav's north face. Circumstances indicate a mountaineering accident; they fell into the abyss while climbing. They had been reported missing abroad.

Police continued the search operation, inquiring about the two foreign mountaineers who set off towards Triglav on Saturday morning.

According to police data, both mountaineers fell into the abyss while climbing the Slovenian Route in Triglav's north face, at an altitude above 1600 meters, and died on site due to severe injuries. Their bodies were found today around 10 a.m. by the crew of a police helicopter during a systematic terrain inspection.

Data shows the climbers were 33 and 42 years old, both Serbian citizens. Italian security authorities issued a missing person alert for the 33-year-old a few days ago. Slovenian police have been searching for them since Sunday evening.

Circumstances indicate they were climbing in demanding conditions above the snow line on mixed snow and rock terrain, police report.
