UIAA Ice Climbing World Cup 2013
11.03.2013
Yesterday, the UIAA competitive ice climbing World Cup concluded with a competition in Kirov (Russia). Our representatives Tjaša Kosič (ŠPO PD Jesenice) and Janez Svoljšak (AO PD Kranj) also competed in the final competition, where Janez qualified for his first final and achieved great success among excellent ice climbers and organizers, thereby confirming his excellent 3rd place from this year's first youth world championship.
Janez Svoljšak (AO PD Kranj) has been competing in lead in the UIAA competitive ice climbing World Cup for the second year; this year, he only missed the first of the five competitions because the first youth world championship was taking place simultaneously in Saas Grund, Switzerland, where he achieved an excellent 3rd place. At the final competition in Kirov, he qualified for the final for the first time in World Cup competitions and finished 8th. His success was also noticed by the umbrella international organization, the International Mountaineering Federation UIAA, which stated in an official release: "Janez Svoljšak, Slovenian representative, is only 19 years old and already promises great hopes, which he confirmed by qualifying for his first final, which is particularly commendable among a multitude of excellent competitors."
Tjaša Kosič (ŠPO PD Jesenice) is already an experienced competitor at only 24 years old. She competes in lead and speed climbing, always achieving good results. In Kirov, she was an excellent 14th in lead, but did not qualify for the semifinals in speed this time.
