Visoki Rokav

12.04.2007
The correct answer to the survey is Visoki Rokav (2646 m), which 28% of you chose. The most, 43%, think the highest is Jalovec (2645 m), 15% Grintovec (2558 m), 9% Stol (2236 m), 4% Krn (2244 m) and 2% Storžič (2132 m). Visoki Rokav is located above the Vrata and Krnica valleys. At 2646 m, it is the highest mountain in Slovenia with no marked path to the summit, otherwise fifth in order. The summit drops steeply into three high-alpine cirques (Na Jezerih, V Kotlu and Velika Dnina). From the summit there is a very beautiful view of neighbouring Škrlatica and across the Vrata valley to Triglav. The ascent to the summit is very difficult and I advise against it without an accompanying mountain guide. Two unmarked paths lead to the summit. The first goes from the bivouac at Jezerih through the Rokavski ozebnik to the saddle between Srednji and Visoki Rokav, the second branches off the marked path to Škrlatica, where from the ridge we head into the cirque V Kotlu and climb to the saddle between Srednji and Visoki Rokav. Both paths then continue along and on the ridge to the summit. Difficult sections reach grade 3 climbing. These sections are from the saddle onwards. The path through the ozebnik is very dangerous when snow-free; then the slightly longer but safer approach from the Škrlatica ridge is recommended.
