World Cup in Sport Climbing Coming Soon to Koper
16.06.2023
Just over two months separate us from one of the biggest sports events of the year – the Koper 2023 Sport Climbing World Cup. At this premier sports event, the elite of the world's best climbers will once again unite. We are pleased to announce that tickets are already available!
The event taking place in Koper promises an exceptional atmosphere, stunning achievements, and adrenaline-filled moments that will thrill spectators. Don't miss the opportunity to watch top climbers, including the best Slovenian and world sport climber Janja Garnbret and last year's Koper competition winner Luka Potočar.
Following the exceptional response to last year's World Cup lead climbing event in Koper, where 10 thousand enthusiastic spectators experienced an unforgettable sports spectacle, we are glad that this year's event will also take place with the support of Prva Osebna zavarovalnica as the general sponsor.
Luka Potočar, winner of last year's Koper competition and overall lead climbing season winner last season. "I believe our fans will reward us with large attendance and loud cheering at this year's competition too. The feeling of standing under the climbing wall and hearing Slovenian spectators cheering is priceless. It motivates me to squeeze out the last atoms of strength and exceed my limits. The competition will be an opportunity to showcase top sport climbing, as all the strongest world competitors in this discipline will be present, while also providing a social spectacle and enjoyment with fans."
After the extremely successful first competition last year, the organizers face the challenge of further enhancing this year's event. Activities for an unforgettable sports spectacle are already underway. The top sports event featuring the world's best climbers – in both women's and men's categories – will be complemented by an accompanying program making the event even more spectacular.
Organizational leader Matej Planko had more to say about what they have prepared: "On Friday morning during qualifications, a mini Olympics for primary school pupils with a touch of mountaineering and sport climbing will be organized. Before the semi-finals, a DJ will warm up the atmosphere with an excellent music program. At the same time, local providers and event partners will present themselves at stands on site, ensuring a true festival atmosphere. On Saturday, the VAL 202 radio station team will provide a spectacular accompanying program. At 5 p.m., young music bands in the Prva priložnost action will entertain you with their rhythms. But that's not all! After the finals, around 10 p.m., a renowned Slovenian band will take the stage. Start guessing now which band it will be, as we will reveal the name a month before the competition starts."
Ticket prices remain the same as last year. Adults will pay 20 euros for a single ticket for both evenings, children 10 euros. This year's novelty is VIP tickets at 95 euros. The special ticket includes a seat near the climbing wall, free parking, and refreshments.
"The event's general sponsor Prva Osebna zavarovalnica will allow everyone who used our offer for free viewing of the Koper spectacle last year to purchase two tickets at half price this year, and they can extend the benefit to a friend with a personal invitation. All who invite friends to the competition will enter a prize draw for a grand prize. The lucky winner will travel to Bern with a friend in early August to watch the Sport Climbing World Championships, where athletes will claim the first tickets to the Paris Olympics, and cheer for our PRVI at the top there," said Nataša Hajdinjak, President of the Management Board of Prva Osebna zavarovalnica.
Given the growing interest in sport climbing competitions, the Alpine Association of Slovenia together with the Palma travel agency, which also contributed the prize trip, has prepared an attractive package for attending the World Championships in Bern, enabling Slovenian competitors to be accompanied by loud cheering to the first Olympic tickets for Paris next year.
"In addition to benefits for Prva Osebna zavarovalnica customers, we have prepared benefits for other attendees, namely a 25% discount for PZS members and residents of the Municipality of Koper. Paying with VALU will allow an additional 10% discount. All ticket information is available at vstopnice.pzs.si, where they can be purchased with all mentioned discounts. In short, we are preparing a rich program that will offer attendees diverse happenings alongside sport climbing enjoyment," concluded Matej Planko.
The Municipality of Koper plays an important role in organizing the competition. "I am glad Koper will host the Sport Climbing World Cup again this year. It is an increasingly popular sport, so I am confident our climbers will be supported by a large audience in September. We are proud to have infrastructure in Koper enabling such important competitions, especially as we are one of few destinations offering year-round climbing. The new city climbing wall and natural crags on the Karst edge provide an excellent combination for further development of the sport," added Mayor of the Municipality of Koper Aleš Bržan.
