Grünberg is 986 meter high peak and is part of the Upper Austrian Prealps. The peak is located 3 km south-southeast from the center of Gmunden and 4 km south-southwest from the center of Baumgarten. The nearest mountain hut is Gmundner Hütte, located 3km south-southeast. A bit closer is bivouac Holzknecht Unterstand, which is located 1.7km to the southeast. The peak is located northeast of the valley Weißenbachtal.
