Sonnstein is 1847 meter high peak with a registration box in the Hochschwab Mountains. The peak is located 3 km northwest of peak Griesmauerkogel. The nearest mountain hut is Gsollhütte, located 2km southeast. A little further is Fobisalm Jagdhütte. 7 km west of the peak there is lake Leopoldsteiner See. East-northeast of the summit is the valley Höllgraben.
