Access to starting point:
First we drive to Maribor, then continue driving on the highway towards the Šentilj border crossing and further on the Austrian highway towards Graz. We leave the mentioned highway at the exit for the town of Leibnitz. After exiting the highway, at the roundabout we continue in the direction of Leibnitz, then drive south of the village Gralla, which is today already a kind of suburban part of Leibnitz. The route then leads past the industrial or commercial zone, where at the roundabout near the Hofer store we continue straight (second exit) in the direction of Deutschlandsberg. We drive on the main road for some time, then after the village Graschach turn right in the direction of Deutschlandsberg. At the roundabout near Deutschlandsberg we continue straight towards the alpine pass Weinebene. From here the road begins to ascend more steeply. After approximately 15 kilometers we reach a junction where the road branches left towards the settlement Glashütten. Here we continue straight towards the Weinebene pass and drive about 400 meters further, where on the left side we notice a larger gravel parking area where we park.
Route description:
From the parking lot we continue along the main road towards Weinebene pass, where we initially walk along the edge of the road; after 900 meters yellow hiking signs direct us slightly right onto a footpath that continues parallel to the main road. A few minutes further we cross a poorer gravel road, then reach a cross after which the path becomes somewhat steeper and continues mostly through the forest. A little further on we come close to the main road, then cross several side roads and arrive at the Holy Trinity chapel (Dreifaltigkeitskapelle), from where we continue following the Austrian markings.
Above the chapel we gradually move away from the main road and continue ascending transversely to the right. Higher up we leave the forest, the path levels out and leads us near Weinebene pass. Here we turn left and return to the main road along the parking lot (in June 2026 the parking lot on the eastern side of the pass was fenced due to works; in that case we follow the marked bypass), carefully cross it and reach the Weinofenblick inn.
