Access to starting point:
a) From the direction of Kamnik (via Luče):
Over the Volovljek pass (Kranjski Rak) we drive to Luče, then continue driving towards Solčava and the Logar Valley. When we arrive in the settlement of Robanov Kot, the signposts for the alpine valley Robanov kot direct us left onto a side road. We drive along it to the arranged parking lot near the Roban farm, where we park. The car can also be left about 500 meters lower, at the first arranged parking lot. Parking on the private land of Penzion Govc-Vršnik is prohibited, as those spaces are reserved exclusively for their guests.
b) From the Maribor–Ljubljana motorway:
We exit the motorway at the Šentrupert exit and continue driving in the direction of Mozirje and the Logar Valley. We drive past Mozirje and Ljubno ob Savinji to Luče, where we continue straight towards Solčava.
Route description:
From the Roban homestead we continue along the bottom of Robanov kot, walking on a comfortable and gentle cart track. Along the way we soon reach Robanova planina, where we encounter the first spring of water, and a little further to Robanova planšarija, next to which another spring is arranged. Up to this point the path is completely gentle and represents an exceptionally beautiful and undemanding walk.
At the planšarija the path turns into the forest and begins to ascend moderately. While walking we cross three dry torrent beds, then the trail leads us directly below the waterfall from under Velika Zelenica. Many excursionists and walkers at this point also conclude their visit to Robanov kot.
From the waterfall onwards the path becomes technically considerably more demanding. With the help of some stemples and cables we quickly ascend to the ridge or back above the waterfall. There follows a steep ascent through the forest, which is occasionally equipped with protections and includes some more demanding technical sections. The ground underfoot becomes increasingly gravelly, and the path alternates steep sections, zigzags and shorter gentle parts. As we progress, the forest becomes increasingly sparse, low and airy.
Approximately a good half hour's walk above the waterfall we arrive at a small cirque, which marks approximately half of the route. The cirque is an excellent place for a short rest, as the continuation becomes very demanding. From here we get a beautiful view of the neighboring Robanov stan, which lies under the mighty rock face of Ut.
From the cirque follows a steep ascent with the help of stemples, pitons and cables, which leads us to a very exposed world. On the technically most difficult section, where we cross an overhanging rock with the help of stemples and cables, a memorial plaque to a fallen mountaineer is also attached.
After this exposed section our path turns right under another overhanging wall, then enters a gully, where we ascend steeply with the help of protections. Although it initially seems that the direction will run along the gully the whole time, after a few meters of ascent it turns to the right side and with the help of aids steeply rises over the slope.
We arrive at the next right turn. Along the cable we reach a shorter, less demanding section of the path, where however we may have some orientation difficulties. The rocks are quite smoothed, and if the sun shines directly into our eyes, we can quickly miss the markings. At this point we step onto a poorly visible junction. If we look left upwards, we will notice one of the two natural windows in the slope of Žvižgovec. We continue right along the marked path.
In the continuation we arrive at another more difficult section of the path. Here we turn left and first ascend over a rock, where relatively few pitons are installed, then continue through a natural gully. Along it a few more cables guide us. When we see the second memorial plaque to a fallen mountaineer, we know we are at the last cable on the path.
There follows the final, very steep but technically undemanding ascent to Sedelce. During this ascent we pass a characteristic larger rock and a solitary larch.
From Sedelce the path finally levels and leads us through dwarf pine. On our left side rises the peak Žvižgovec, in whose slope we can also observe another natural window.
There follows some gentle descent through a belt of dwarf pine, then we reach a marked junction.
We continue left in the direction of Planina Ravne and Planina Podvežak (right Molička planina and Korošica) and begin to ascend first gently, later for a few steps steeply. At the shrine the path levels, then continues along an abyss, where there is a danger of falling into the depths, but a cable helps us in the crossing (this section of the path is otherwise not technically demanding). The path ahead ascends to Prag, where the directions for Ravne and Podvežak separate, and we follow the left path, next to which besides the markings for Planina Ravne there are also markings for Veliki vrh and Velika Zelenica.
There follows some transverse ascent to the right, then we turn left towards Veliki vrh (straight Planina Ravne), where we first ascend steeply, then the path levels transitionally. In the continuation we ascend quite steeply on the southwestern slopes of Veliki vrh, where in places there is quite a lot of gravel on the path. On this section of the path especially during descent some more caution is needed, otherwise the path is not exposed, but the slope is quite steep. Later the slope becomes less steep, and the path continues to ascend quite steeply through dwarf pine. Higher up ever more beautiful views open up, the path turns right and then in a few minutes leads us to Veliki vrh.
At Veliki vrh the marked path turns sharply left and descends to the saddle between Veliki vrh and Velika Zelenica.
Here a marked path branches off right downwards towards Planina Ravne, which leads over the eastern slopes of Veliki vrh, and from the left a trail also joins us, which from our direction bypasses Veliki vrh. We continue straight north and over gentle grassy slopes in a few minutes arrive at Velika Zelenica.
