Read the forum... thanks for all info, first time going to this end of the Alps. Very welcome.
Regarding helmet and via ferrata sets, I've been hiking without them for 30 years everywhere, and I'm still whole. Someone can say I have more luck than brains... maybe true

But I got used to it, in the 80s it wasn't normal to have so much gear on, which sometimes hinders more than helps (at least me, matter of habit of course).
But it's true, when I started dragging kids along, we got gear. First, it's mandatory (let's leave aside that it's IMPOSSIBLE to get suitable helmets for a 4-year-old girl...). Second, though I don't think I'm a parent who wraps kids in cellophane, on certain paths I'm calmer if those two are tied there. I also became more fearful myself, definitely hormones to blame
...so I agree with planika82, self-belaying is each individual's decision (over 14 years, until then legislation decides for you). The only thing that throws me off is seeing some on 2000+ in flip-flops

Footwear really has to be at least somewhat appropriate. I was on Triglav first time in Converse, I think that's the minimum

I'm not demanding
