Via hunters' path to hut. Still huge amounts of snow for skiing. Seems the cargo cable car will soon be done and end of carrying supplies. Hut open from 3.6.2016. Via Slovenian valley. Snow on upper part of path still plenty. Žrelo without snow. On Slovenian only upper part of pegs 20 meters.

New path through Žrelo!
On Saturday evening, a new path to the Kranjska hut on Ledine through Žrelo was made. The path is more demanding than the previous one, maybe similar in difficulty to that on Baba, just shorter. In the middle of the upper part, maybe a peg is missing, but let's wait for winter to do its work. The markers really sweated in 4 days..

From Jezersko past Kranjska koča to Ledine in fog. Rinkas over 2000m already in sun. Upper path part just fixed by path markers. Sun on top all way down. From Kranjska koča to Žrel path markers repairing or new wire ropes. By end of week on new Žrel part.

Today a serious accident happened, lightning hit the lower cable car station. The station burned down. Most likely hut operation will be difficult, also concerts this season questionable...

I'm at Ledine. Surprisingly, there's 25-30 cm of snow... Almost enough to ski. The hut is open and warm. In short, winter idyll...

This ferrata has nothing to do with Žrel. It's a completely new direction. Go towards Žrel but soon see the ferrata sign and go right. The exit is right near the Czech Hut. But it's harder than Žrel. Mountain greetings.

The via ferrata is between existing paths and under the cables of the cargo cableway. The start is a good 40-minute walk from the parking lot.

If anyone is interested... Kranjska Hut on Ledine will be open from Friday 17.10.2014 to Sunday evening 19.10.2014. In case of nice weather it will be open next weekend too from 24.10. to 26.10.2014.
On Saturday, 18.10.2014 at 10.00 there will be opening of new via ferrata to Czech Hut.

Current conditions - Via slovenska path to Ledine, no problems. From Ledine via ferrata to Baba hard snow in gully between Ledinski vrh and Baba and a bit below Baba summit. Ice axe recommended. Upper snow can be bypassed below. But when returning to Austrian side, still lots of hard snow there. From Jezersko sedlo great slide on shoes to glacier end. Lovska path from Ledine snow-free. That was yesterday...
