I'm glad that through forum you can learn opinions and experiences of others too. Excessive philosophizing and highlighting own opinion on certain topics probably really isn't the point of recreational mountain lovers forum. Different story is nutrition of pro athletes, which usually borders on doping.
But I think for all of us most important is to feel good in mountains, as most of you mentioned. If that includes some beer or slivovitz because that's what suits that day, nothing wrong. I go to mountains since 4 years old and as I say looking back, experienced mountains age-appropriately in each period. In youth speed was more important (to Triglav summit from Vrata in 3 hours) and marathoners (isotonic drinks), later more aesthetic pleasures with nice views. On nutrition I think take food with you that suits you best that day. Maybe need to think more about nutrition only on longer and harder hikes, to take enough liquid and calories. Best regards all! And many more nice hikes!smile

We all know that around the nutrition of runners, hikers and all other "enthusiastic recreationals" there has been too much written in various media and Polets, really good and useful advice was very little. I think it's much healthier if in the mountains during the tour or after it you eat one homemade sausage and cheese, with that you intake proper amount of salt, fats and proteins, all nicely washed down with plain water. No one will tell me that various isotonic drinks and gels are "healthy". Otherwise I advise all recreationals not to overdo with various commercial stimulants!!!(very dangerous for heart failure at high physical exertion). Well, maybe one frutabela instead of dessert.
