Bodenwies is 1540 meter high peak and is part of the Upper Austrian Prealps. The peak is located 7 km west-northwest from the center of Altenmarkt bei Sankt Gallen and 7 km northwest from the center of Weißenbach an der Enns. The nearest mountain hut is Schüttbauernalm, located 1.4km east. And bivouac St. Gallen Steiner is also close by. East-southeast of the summit is the valley Frenzgraben.
