Pfaffenstein is 1871 meter high peak and is part of the Hochschwab Mountains. The peak is located 5 km northwest of peak Polster. The nearest mountain hut is Gsollhütte, located 4km east. A bit closer is Hasenkeusche, which is located 2km to the northwest. 5 km west-northwest of the peak there is lake Leopoldsteiner See. Northwest of the summit is the valley Frenzgraben.
