Kleiner Knallstein is 2378 meter high peak located in the Lower Tauern mountain range. The peak is located 6 km west-northwest from the center of Sankt Nikolai im Sölktal and 9 km south from the center of Großsölk. The nearest mountain hut is Bräualm, located 5km east-southeast. A little further is bivouac Mößna Tritscher. South-southwest of the summit is the valley Rantengraben.
