Hundskogel is 2239 meter high peakon which a cross stands located in the Lower Tauern mountain range. The peak is located 3 km northeast from the center of Obertauern and 7 km southeast from the center of Untertauern. The nearest mountain hut is Wismeyerhaus, located 2km south-southwest. A little further is bivouac Knappenstube. Northeast of the summit is the valley Obertal.
