Tiefe Scharte is 1477 meter high peak and is part of the Salzkammergut Mountains. The peak is located 4 km south-southwest from the center of Gschwandt and 4 km south-southwest from the center of Bad Goisern. The nearest mountain hut is Rodelhütte, located 1.6km north. A little further is bivouac Wallmann-Poidl-Rast. East-southeast of the summit is the valley Koppental.
