Rauherkogel is 990 meter high peak in the mountain group Totes Gebirge. The peak is located 2 km south-southwest from the center of Grundlsee and 4 km east from the center of Bad Aussee. The nearest mountain hut is Loserhütte, located 7km northwest. A bit closer is bivouac Grundlsee Archkogl, which is located 1.7km to the north-northwest. 5 km northwest of the peak there is lake Altausseer See. The peak is located east of the valley Koppental.
