Solbica (Italian: Stolvizza) is a picturesque village in the Resia Valley (Val Resia), located in the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, near the border with Slovenia. It is situated at an altitude of approximately 596 meters and is surrounded by the majestic mountains of the Julian Alps, including the Kanin mountain range, whose highest peak Kanin reaches 2587 meters.
The village is part of the Municipality of Resia and is known for its unique Resian culture, where the inhabitants speak Resian, an archaic Slavic dialect that preserves ancient traditions and folklore. Solbica is an ideal starting point for nature lovers and hikers. Here begins the popular trail Ta Lipa (in Resian "beautiful road"), which leads through the Natural Park of the Julian Prealps and offers easy walks without technical difficulties, suitable for all generations. The trail takes you past wonderful views, forests, and alpine meadows, where you can observe local flora and fauna.
In the surroundings, there are also other trails, such as the ascent to Žrd or to the Igor Crasso shelter, which offer panoramic views of the valley.
The village is rich in cultural heritage. In the center stands the parish church of St. Charles Borromeo, which was renovated after the 1976 earthquake.
A special attraction is the Museum of the People of Val Resia (Museo della gente della Val Resia), an ethnographic museum with exhibitions on local customs, fairy tales, and traditional life.
There is also the Museum of Knife Grinders, dedicated to the profession that was once the main source of livelihood for many villagers – Resian knife grinders traveled around Europe sharpening knives and tools.
Solbica comes alive in summer with events such as "Summer Vibes in Resia", which include cultural, musical, and sports events celebrating local identity.
