Magerstein is 3273 meter high peak and is part of the Rieserferner Group. The peak is located 1.3 km southeast of peak Monte Nevoso - Schneebiger Nock. The nearest mountain hut is Rieserfernerhütte - Rifugio Vedrette di Ries, located 1.6km southwest. Pichleralm is a bit further away. 8 km northeast of the peak there is lake Sankt-Josef-See. 1.1 km north from the summit there is glacier Westlicher Rieserferner - Vedretta di Ries occidentale, 2 km east-northeast from the summit there is also glacier Östlicher Rieserferner - Vedretta di Ries orientale. The peak is located northwest of the valley Antholzer Tal - Valle di Anterselva.
