Description: © CLAUDIO MORTINI™◊ On the western side of the Valdichiana, opposite Cortona and situated on a mountain overlooking the Esse stream valley, rises Monte San Savino, an ancient village where many signs of Etruscan civilization were found during excavations at the end of the 1800s. The history of the town gradually settled along the events involving the Guelph and Ghibelline factions. The latter prevailed, so the village came under the power of the Ubertini, lords of Arezzo, but then in 1306 it passed under Florentine and Guelph jurisdiction. In 1337 Monte San Savino first passed under the dominion of Perugia, then Siena and then (1384) again under Florence which sent podestà and vicars for the administration of justice.
