Description: © CLAUDIO MORTINI™◊ Nocera Umbra is in the province of Perugia, perched on the slopes of a steep hill overlooking the valley of the Topino river and is included in the Parco del Monte Subasio Characteristic medieval city famous for the goodness of the waters of its territory, brought in the 17th century as far as Constantinople, dominated by the large tower called Campanaccio, the only remnant of the sturdy fortress of its Gastalds, then of its Counts. Of the ancient cathedral, incorporated into the fortress, only the 10th-century portal remains. Of great importance is the church of San Francesco, Romanesque-Gothic of the 14th century, not only for the frescoes by Matteo da Gualdo, but also because it houses the municipal Pinacoteca, with works by Alunno, the Maestro di San Francesco and the Cimabue school.
