The origins of the village date back to the 8th century and its history is linked to that of the San Pietro in Valle abbey, for whose defense, in 1200, two castles were built. First a free commune, then under the lordship of the Cybo and Ancaiani, it fought for a long time against Montefranco and Spoleto. The events of Ferentillo always followed those of the abbey, which tried to become independent from both the Duchy of Spoleto and the Lateran Chapter.
