Our first attempt to conquer the summit of Mont Blanc. We decided to take advantage of the weather window and climb as high as possible. We took the Tramway du Mont Blanc from the station in Le Fayet to save energy for the rest of the hike. Then from Nid d'Aigle (2380 m) we headed along a rocky and steep path towards Baraque des Rognes, roughly halfway to the Refuge Tete Rousse shelter (3170m). From there steeply uphill and then across the glacier to the shelter. There a few hours of sleep in the Base Camp Tete Rousse tent and early in the morning (around 3 o'clock), still in the dark, towards the Refuge du Goûter shelter (3815m), to cross the couloir of falling rocks on frozen snow. Around 7 a.m. we reached the metal platform and then followed the snowy ridge towards Refuge du Goûter. From the very beginning of the hike, and then the climb, a strong wind hindered us, and additionally at this altitude clouds stopped, limiting visibility. Only around noon did the clouds disperse a bit. That day we gave up the summit assault. It was a huge fitness challenge. Goal achieved. Terrain reconnaissance, initial acclimatization. There will be more attempts.
