Description:
It forms part of the small Navarrese village of Gaintza. Passing the church, we take a paved track branching off to the right. We ascend with some turns until reaching the start of a wide dirt track created by excavators. We cross a gate and emerge onto extensive grassy meadows at the foot of the impressive Malloas. Parallel to a wire fence on our right, we climb the increasingly steep slopes. Before the meadows turn to forest, we must cross that fence and continue along a faint path that becomes clearer and veers left at a fence junction. We cross it and proceed through the forest. This path, after another gate, leads to the extremely steep slopes that open much higher up into the Astunalde col.
