She was declared Patroness of Folk Dances in 1972. On the pilgrimage to Cusco, the Virgen del Carmen was crowned by Pope John Paul II in 1985 on the esplanade of Sacsayhuaman and in 2006 it was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Nation by the National Institute of Cultural.
