The rather unknown Tabor ruin ekes out its existence in the shadow of its large and extremely well-known sister, the Dürnstein ruin.

Among the originally high free nobles who immigrated from the Bavarian-Saxon region, the Kuenringers also came to Austria in the 11th century. As Vogt of Tegernsee Monastery over the monastic estates in the Wachau, Azzo von Kuenring acquired the area around Dürnstein around 1050.
