Interlaken is a traditional tourist center in the mountainous region of the Bernese Oberland in central Switzerland. Built on a narrow valley strip between the emerald-colored waters of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, it has old wooden houses and green areas on both sides of the Aare River. The surrounding mountains, with dense forests, alpine meadows and glaciers, feature several hiking trails and ski slopes.
