Winter hiking in the Eastern Sierra is a hiker's paradise! On a chilly winter morning in Bishop driving down Highway 395 we decided to take the Kearsarge Pass trail up to the stunningly beautiful Matlock Lake. With a high wind advisory and a fresh snowfall, the trail was completely deserted, making it one magical winter hike.
