In the middle of the Dutch Wadden Sea lies Ameland island: Everyone has space on its 27 kilometer long sandy beach. Idyllic are the monument-protected village centers of the four villages with their captain's houses from the whaling era. Andrea Grießmann is there when the historic horse-drawn rescue boat is launched into the water, visits a beach scavenger and tests mustard soup and cranberry beer. The mudflat hike becomes a test of courage, the view from the lighthouse makes up for the 236 steps, and the nature supervisor with whom Andrea Grießmann travels in the nature reserve 'Het Oer' turns out to be an artist. Amelanders are proud of their pioneering role in clean energy: The island hosts the largest solar park in Holland.
