Description:
We start the route by venturing into the bushes and rocks in the barranco, it's five hundred meters good for warming up. The barranco turns to our left and we immediately find the large walls. First, the summit of Álamo at 1181m altitude, where the Ermita de la Cruz is located. The entire line of that wall is over 1100 meters. Great walls that are challenges for good climbers, with climbing routes of different levels. There are four main sectors: Jarama, La Gema, Rincón Gris and La Pepa. On the route we keep skirting, jumping, climbing all the large rocks that hinder passage through the barranco. I think I've never passed through the same spot, it's spectacular to see yourself there. There are a variety of places to trace the path, I look for the fastest accessible path on the rocks. The trace can be very difficult or accessible, depending on where you trace it. We reach an area that is vertical climbing (4+), here I have to rope up our companion Sooke with the harness. Some companion takes advantage of the rope to climb more comfortably. In the following sections Sooke knows how to find her way. It's always advisable to carry a 30-meter rope in case someone in the group finds a part of the trace difficult. Some rocks are immense, the size of a bus, and it's clear they fell from the top of the mountain. You can tell it's frequented by climbers, they are respectful as seen and no human presence is noticeable except for the bolts on the opened routes. Once the climbing sectors are left behind, it's a practically virgin place where a lot of tranquility is breathed. The strong passage of water, you barely find signs that people pass there. There are moments when I follow the trail of animals crossing the barranco looking for food. The characteristic smell of goats and wild boar that were there a moment ago and left upon hearing us. It gives the impression that we are hundreds of kilometers from civilization and living a cinematic adventure. We reach 635 meters altitude in two and a half kilometers traveled. We see the pines on one edge, the barranco narrows like a funnel. These areas are very difficult to access and nature is well protected. We walk another three hundred meters and find a 35-meter altitude obstacle that we skirt on the right margin, returning to the bed once the difficulty is overcome. We ascended jumping and climbing about 150 meters and upon reaching the top, we were amazed by the stalactite and stalagmite formations on the wall, this meant that all the dislodged rocks where we were climbing had been a cave and upon collapsing these beautiful natural formations were exposed. This ascent has no end and every step was very difficult for Sooke. We abandon the rocks and turning traverse to our right until we reach a small plain with views of the barranco. It was after three thirty and we stopped to eat sandwiches and recover energy. We resumed the march without stopping ascending the ridge among esparto grasses. I know the area and walked at an angle until finding the path of Peñón Rodado. In a short time we linked with it and relief to find the path that leads to the car. We descended gently passing the hermitage of Santa Cruz de Huécija. Later, passing a curve of the mule track, impressive views arrive over the Tabernas desert, Sierra Alhamilla, Sierra de los Filabres and towns like Instinción, Íllar, Rágol, Bentarique, Terque, Alicún, Huécija, among others. From here the trail begins to descend with steep zigzagging slopes. We pass by the ruins of a cortijo, a few meters away, the trail is right below the hermitage of Santa Cruz and in front of the La Pepa route. From this moment, the view of the barranco disappears to continue descending eastwards. Once the trail ends, it reaches a dirt track, here we make a 180-degree turn south. We continue about 500 meters on it and see the cortijos of Los Molinos, abandon the track and cross the cortijada via a path to the road where our cars are.
