Description: Production Associazione vivere la montagna. Luca Bettosini. There was also the Chuebodengletscher in Val Bedretto, a glacier partly located in the Canton of Valais and occupying the western slope of Poncione Cassina di Baggio, and a good slice of the glacier descended from Gerenpass towards All’Acqua in Val Bedretto. The border with the confederate canton ran through the middle of the glacier, roughly in a straight line between the summit of Chuebodenhorn and the 2815 summit of Poncione di Maniò. Then in the 1960s of the last century, the large glacier began to retreat and lower. In 1993, a small lake appeared in Valais territory. Three years later, in 1996, another one appeared slightly north. In a couple of years, the lakes joined forming a lake that grew larger and larger until it touched and crossed the border and penetrated into Ticino territory towards the northeast. Now the new lake is perhaps more than 400 meters long. The little ice left of the Chuebodengletscher is all Ticinese and is located west of Poncione Cassina di Baggio.
