Description: We took advantage of the sunny day and made a quick trip during the week to Bâlea Waterfall, hoping to catch the cable car to Bâlea Lake. We were lucky and at 9:15 we were ascending to Bâlea Lake. We arrived up around 10 o'clock in cool weather, just below zero degrees Celsius. We admired the desolation, silence and special landscapes. At that time 2-3 ski tourers climbed towards Șaua Doamnei, where the trail was more accessible. The trails above the lake were frozen and cornices were visible on the ridges. We also went to the entrance of the tunnel that goes towards Argeș, it was mostly covered with snow but there was a small metal gate through which one could enter the tunnel. In front of the tunnel where in summer it's full of stalls, everything was covered with snow. The weather estimate showed around 2.5m of snow at the weather station, but it was frozen, just like Bâlea Lake which you couldn't identify if you didn't know its summer location. Towards Șaua Caprei there were no tracks because the snow was rock-hard frozen and ice cornices were seen in the ridge. As a general conclusion on the snow, the layer was much thinner than in other years and rock-hard on the surface. At the weather station it's a special situation, on the measurement spot the snow is drifted. There was also a fresh layer of 2 cm snow. After an hour and a half of filming and photographing we leisurely descended towards Bâlea waterfall. Continuation in the next video.
